One of my favourite destinations in Sydney, The Grounds of Alexandria, kicked off Sunday with their Labour Day Markets at 8am this morning. As well as serving up their world-famous coffee, the Spring markets were in full swing with a live DJ, kids entertainment and a unique gathering of food and craft purveyors.

The Grounds is not just a place to eat and drink, the concept of bringing people, food and creativity together creates an atmosphere that attracts visitors from all over Sydney and afar. Sit in their outdoor cafe amongst fragrant herb, heirloom vegetables, and fresh fruit gardens, or inside where treats from the bakery are irresistible and the aroma of roasting coffee is intoxicating.

The rustic, industrial location is the former home to a 20th century pie factory and hosts weekly cupping, barista and tasting sessions as well as roasting sessions for those wanting to learn the craft. info@groundsroasters.com

The Spring Market is open on tomorrow’s public holiday and the first weekend of every month. Don’t miss it – it’s family friendly, a perfect spot for a date, or just turn up solo and soak it all up.

Make sure you grab some of Adam’s Nuts – fill a cup for $5-$7. All homemade by Adam himself. He calls himself an amateur but his nuts tell a different story!

Maya Sunny Honey has their golden pots of honey for sale. All organic and you can actually see a beehive in action. This is raw food being produced right in front of your eyes. Gorgeous Maya was kind enough to gift me a honeycomb pot that up to 500 bees worked on to create my very own one-of-a-kind honey comb.

Don’t miss Florals by Silva. I can’t begin to tell you how divine her flowers are. She mixes hydrangeas with peonies and orchids and the most heavenly blush-coloured roses. Her rustic stall is an absolute treat and Silva is a sweetheart, she even treated me to a much-needed refreshment of homemade lemonade while we were chatting! And her skills are endless, she does weddings, functions and delivers delightful bouquets to your door.

I also fell for Emma’s fine jewellery. Her label Recreational (jewellery with a wink) creates initial rings and necklaces, love hearts for your fingers and ears and gold and silver pieces to ooh and aah over. She also has a line of recycled jewellery that’s a little more masculine and at a lower price point.

Enjoy the pics. Love, Coogeecat X
